Commercial Play Detection

HGV play detectors for commercial testing lanes.

Commercial play detectors move the wheels under load so steering and suspension movement can be inspected on HGV and PSV vehicles. Liftmaster supplies fixed and mobile arrangements for commercial testing lanes, planned around the brake tester, pit and vehicle flow.

Why Play Detection

Finding wear a static check can miss

Steering and suspension wear on a heavy vehicle is not always obvious with the axle stationary. A play detector moves the wheels while the inspector watches the joints and suspension components.

Under load

Joints worked, not just looked at

Hydraulic plates move the wheels through their travel while vehicle weight remains on the axle.

The inspector sees the movement

In line

Part of the same lane

The play detector is positioned in relation to the brake tester so the vehicle can move through the testing sequence without unnecessary repositioning.

BM53000 commercial play detector

The BM53000 is the DVSA-approved commercial play detector identified in the current Liftmaster range for HGV and PSV lanes. It uses hydraulic plates and is installed on flush-fit subframes for a permanent pit or floor arrangement.

BM Autoteknik has built vehicle test-lane equipment in Denmark since 1977, and the BM53000 is used alongside the BM commercial brake-testing range.

Play detection for an on-ground lane

Where a permanent pit and in-ground testing equipment are not suitable, the current range includes a mobile arrangement. The BM20200 mobile brake tester can be paired with a mobile play detector for an on-ground ATF lane.

Liftmaster assesses the site, vehicle mix and testing workflow before recommending fixed or mobile equipment. See the BM20200 mobile brake tester for more on the mobile option.

Planned with the brake tester and the pit

A play detector is one part of a commercial testing lane. We plan its position with the brake tester and the pit so the lane runs in a sensible order. For the full picture, see our ATF equipment and test lanes.

Installation & Support

Installation and support

Liftmaster surveys the pit or floor, installs the play detector in the planned lane position and carries out the commissioning work that applies to the equipment. Ongoing servicing and breakdown support are provided through Liftmaster’s own engineers and trusted subcontractors.

Tell us the lane and the vehicles. We will spec the play detector.

Send the site details, the HGV or PSV vehicles being tested and whether the lane uses a pit or an on-ground arrangement. The Commercial team can specify the appropriate play-detection equipment and provide a quotation.
