Garage equipment servicing, calibration and LOLER inspection.
Liftmaster’s service division supports the garage equipment it supplies after installation. Servicing, MOT equipment calibration, LOLER thorough examination and breakdown support are delivered through Liftmaster’s own engineers and trusted subcontractors nationwide.
Keeping your garage safe and compliant.
Different equipment is subject to different requirements.
Vehicle lifts fall under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) and must be thoroughly examined by a competent person at the required interval.
PUWER applies to work equipment and requires it to be maintained appropriately.
MOT test equipment must be calibrated to the standards and intervals required by DVSA.
These requirements should not be treated as one compliance cycle. Liftmaster can organise servicing, LOLER thorough examination and MOT equipment calibration on a coordinated schedule where the individual requirements align.
LOLER inspection and
thorough examination.
Under LOLER 1998, vehicle lifts must be thoroughly examined by a competent person and covered by a written report of thorough examination. Liftmaster carries out the examination, records the findings and identifies any defects that require attention.
How often a vehicle lift must be examined
LOLER sets a default interval of at least every 12 months for vehicle inspection lifts, and at least every 6 months for equipment used to lift people and for lifting accessories. Separately from that statutory minimum, HSE’s motor vehicle repair guidance recommends that vehicle lifts are thoroughly examined every 6 months. A competent person can also set a written scheme of examination that changes the interval according to the equipment, its use and its working environment. Liftmaster can examine to whichever interval applies to your equipment and how it is used.
What a LOLER certificate covers
A thorough examination produces a written report of thorough examination, often called a LOLER certificate. The report records the equipment examined, the date of examination, defects found, any defects that must be corrected within a stated period, and when the next examination is due. Liftmaster issues the report after the examination and keeps the examination history on file.
What a LOLER inspection costs
Cost depends on the number and type of lifts, the site and whether the examination forms part of a planned maintenance contract. Where servicing and examination can be completed during the same attendance, Liftmaster can quote for the work together. Send the service team your equipment list for a site-specific price.
MOT bay servicing and equipment calibration.
MOT test equipment must remain within the calibration requirements set by DVSA. A lapsed calibration can take affected equipment out of test until the requirement is met.

Liftmaster services and calibrates complete Class 4, 5 and 7 MOT bays. This can include Brake Testers, Decelerometers, Headlamp Testers and Emissions Analysers, with each item scheduled against the requirements that apply to it.
See MOT Bay Equipment for the wider equipment range.
Servicing packages and
planned maintenance.
Liftmaster provides planned maintenance for vehicle lifts, MOT bays and workshop equipment. Depending on the equipment and contract, the schedule can cover routine servicing, LOLER thorough examination and DVSA calibration without treating them as the same inspection or calibration interval.
Packages can cover a single lift, a complete workshop or multi-site and fleet operations.
Routine vehicle lift servicing with LOLER thorough examination scheduled to the requirements of the equipment.
Full-bay servicing and DVSA calibration for Class 4, 5 and 7 MOT bays.
Servicing for compressors, tyre equipment and wheel equipment supplied by Liftmaster.
Depending on the equipment, planned work can include:
- LOLER thorough examination
- Brake tester calibration
- Headlamp beam tester calibration
- Play detector inspection and service
- Jacking beam inspection
- Brake and headlamp service
- Lift service for two-post, four-post and scissor lifts
- Documentation for the examinations, calibrations and servicing completed
Installation and
commissioning.
Liftmaster arranges installation and commissioning for the equipment it supplies, using its own engineers and trusted subcontractors where appropriate. Equipment is handed over with the relevant operating information and training for the workshop team. The current service process includes a first LOLER thorough examination at handover.
Load testing a newly installed lift is the customer’s responsibility. Liftmaster can supply a load-testing package where required; ask the team for a quote.
Site survey and
specification.
Before equipment is ordered, Liftmaster checks the floor, power supply, available height, drainage and bay layout against the proposed installation. The survey is used to confirm that the lift or bay suits the space and the work planned for it.
Emergency callout and
breakdown support.
Liftmaster operates a direct emergency callout line to its service team for supported equipment. For equipment Liftmaster supplied, the team can work from the original specification and commissioning records and arrange the appropriate engineer or parts support.
Genuine
spare parts.
Liftmaster holds genuine spare parts for the equipment it supplies, including the BendPak range as sole UK distributor. The service team can use the original installation details to identify the correct part for the equipment being maintained or repaired.
Nationwide coverage from
survey to callout.
The service division works nationwide through Liftmaster’s own engineers and a network of trusted subcontractors. Support includes routine servicing, calibration, LOLER thorough examination and breakdown callout for the equipment Liftmaster supports.

How often does a vehicle lift need a LOLER inspection?
For most workshop vehicle inspection lifts, LOLER 1998 sets a default thorough examination interval of at least every 12 months, and at least every 6 months for equipment used to lift people and for lifting accessories. Separately from that statutory minimum, HSE’s motor vehicle repair guidance recommends that vehicle lifts are thoroughly examined every 6 months. A competent person can also set a written scheme of examination that changes the interval according to how the equipment is used and the environment it works in.
What is a LOLER inspection?
A LOLER inspection is a thorough examination of lifting equipment by a competent person under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998. It checks whether the equipment is safe to continue using and produces a written report recording the equipment, the date, defects found and when the next examination is due.
Is a LOLER certificate a legal requirement?
LOLER 1998 requires vehicle lifts to be thoroughly examined by a competent person and covered by a written report of thorough examination, commonly called a LOLER certificate. Liftmaster issues the written report after the examination and keeps the examination history on file.
How much does a LOLER inspection cost?
Cost depends on the number and type of lifts, the site and whether the examination forms part of a planned maintenance contract. Where servicing and examination can be completed during the same attendance, Liftmaster can quote for the work together. Send the service team your equipment list for a price.
Do you service and calibrate MOT bay equipment?
Yes. Liftmaster services and calibrates complete Class 4, 5 and 7 MOT bays, including roller brake testers, decelerometers, headlamp beam testers and diesel smoke meters, to the applicable DVSA requirements. The service team can coordinate the schedule across the bay while keeping each item to its own required interval.
What does a planned maintenance package include?
The package depends on the equipment and site. It can combine routine servicing with LOLER thorough examination and calibration where those requirements apply. Packages are available for individual vehicle lifts, MOT bays, workshop equipment and multi-site or fleet operations.
Does Liftmaster cover the whole UK?
Yes. The service division works nationwide through Liftmaster’s own engineers and a network of trusted subcontractors.
